Beyond the variety of lip designs, oil seals also come in various case designs, each serving a unique role. Here are some of the most common ones:
-
- Nitrile Oil Seals – Also known as Acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber seals, is a particularly good general-purpose option due to its flexibility of usage. They are the most often used oil seal due to its strong resistance against hot water, fats and animal oils, gasoline, mineral oils, and grease. They cannot however survive extreme temperatures.
-
The main lip is the most critical component of the seal.
Its sealing edge comes in full contact with the shaft surface in order to provide excellent sealing performance.
(See Figure 3.) -
Thoroughly clean the sleeve at the back of the pulley, and look for any roughness on it where it touches the seal. If necessary, smooth it with fine wet-and-dry abrasive paper.
- Double oil seals are commonly used in high-pressure and high-speed applications where maintaining a clean and uncontaminated environment is crucial. double oil seal. For instance, in automotive engines, double oil seals ensure that engine oil stays within the system, preventing oil leaks that could lead to engine failure or environmental pollution.
- In addition to sealing, thick rubber gaskets also provide cushioning and insulation properties. The flexible nature of rubber allows it to conform to irregular surfaces, providing a tight and secure seal. This is particularly important in applications where there may be movement or vibration, as the gasket can absorb shocks and prevent damage to the surrounding components.
