Applications of Small Compression Springs
Choosing the Right Spring for the Job
A compression spring’s most notable physical characteristic is the visible spaces between the coil—they do not contact each other. Referred to as the pitch, when the distance between the coils are compressed mechanical energy is stored until the force is removed, which then allows the spring to expand to its original size. If coils come into contact with each other the load is either too heavy, which indicates a design flaw, or the spring has failed and its service life has ended.
1. Construction and Building One of the primary uses of mild steel weld mesh is in the construction industry. It is often employed as reinforcement in concrete slabs, walls, and floors. By providing additional strength, the mesh helps prevent cracking and increases the load-bearing capacity of structures.
Composition and Properties
Also known as linear rate springs, these springs feature evenly spaced coils for a uniform rate of compression. The spring compresses an amount proportional to the load being placed on the spring. Popular for heavy-duty and performance applications, when the correct constant rate spring is chosen it helps improve ride quality by reducing pitch and roll.

3. Insulators and Accessories For electric fencing systems, insulators are crucial. They prevent the electric current from grounding out, ensuring that the shock deters the cattle effectively. Additional accessories such as tensioners, corner braces, and fastening tools are also essential to maintain the integrity of the fence and to make adjustments as needed over time.

The most common type of spring is a Coil Spring or Helical Spring, used to store mechanical energy and subsequently release it. These Coil Springs can be closewoundor open-wound and are made of hardened steel. The most common types are: Compression, Extension and Torsion
COMPRESSION SPRINGS can be found in ballpoint pens and valve assemblies as well as thousands of other places. When you put a load on the spring, makingit shorter, it pushes back against the load and tries to get back to its original length. Compression Springs may be cylindrical, conical, tapered, concave or convex inshape. The changing of spring ends, direction of the helix, material and finish allows a compression spring to meet a wide variety of special industrial needs; they arethe most common spring configuration and are usually placed over a rod or fitted inside a hole.
There are four basic types of compression spring ends, affecting the solid height, free length and other characteristics of the spring:
Open Ends, Not Ground: the ends of a compression spring are opened with a constant pitch for each coilOpen and Ground End: the ends of the spring are open and ground creating a flat surface
Square or Closed Ends (SQ): the ends of the spring are closed so that the end coils touch
Square (Closed) and Ground Ends (SG): the ends of the spring are closed so that the end coils touch & the end is ground to provide a flat plane
